Hibiscus Sabdariffa Roselle Tea


Hibiscus Sabdariffa is a plant with beautiful flower that growth in tropical and subtropical area. Indonesia in south east asia is one of the tropical countries with a lot of tropical fruit and vegetables, very suitable for planting HIBISCUS SABDARIFFA.

Established in 2003, we start planting our garden with vegetables as what the farmers have done in our village. Business of Vegetables are depended on the season and the price in the market were up and down. We couldn’t continue planting this vegetables anymore since we always lose money.

In 2006 one of our relatives from Canada was visiting us in Indonesia and he brought the seed of Hibiscus Sabdariffa Roselle originally from Jamaica. He persuaded us to plant this tree in our garden, since he has an experience about what benefit he could get from Hibiscus Sabdariffa. At that time we only put one seed of Hibiscus Sabdariffa in our land, and within 2 month the tree has reached 1 mtr height and some small flower coming out. We still don’t understand the benefit of this tree and we also didn’t know how to cultivate this tree in the correct way. We start studying a lot of books and searching more information in the internet about Hibiscus Sabdariffa, and finally we were very interested in this plant due to the much benefit of the flower to human body, and it’s not difficult to cultivate them in our garden since the weather is very suitable

In the end of 2006 we started preparing the land, we made a breeding of the seed from our first Hibiscus tree, then we started planting this tree on 3000 sqmtr in our land. Amazingly, only within 3 month we can harvest the big flower of Hibi and we continued breeding, planting, and harvesting until our land of 20.000 sqmtr full with this trees now.

In the beginning, it’s very difficult to introduce the benefit of this flower to the people. Most of them don’t believe about how this flower can overcome a lot of disease and protect the body from any kind of virus and bacteria. We must submit a lot of samples, make presentation, distribute a lot of brochures but thank God that our effort have got a lot of help from the consumers themselves. After trying to consume our flower, they really feel much better, and they tell to somebodyelse about our products automatically. Now, this products have been known, and we are easily sell to the market, and we developing together with the growing of this Hibiscus Sabdariffa in our garden.

Now, in Indonesia we have 2 varieties of Hibiscus Sabdariffa. First variety, and it's ours, Hibiscus Sabdariffa with color purple black. This quality is very seldom plant by Indonesian farmer, because the seed is originally from Jamaica or Sudan, which is far from Indonesia. Beside the color, the taste of this variety is sweet - sour. Second variety , with color red. This quality is very easy to grow without any maintenance and very quick to be harvested. Since the cost for planting this second variety is low, then the price in market for this second variety is cheaper than the first.

However, Hibiscus Sabdariffa has a Berry flavoured, sweet—sour, and fresh, these are the taste when we make juice from the calyces. If we put some sugar, the taste is become amazingly and we can make many kind of juice combine with coconut, or pineapple, or banana, or avocado, and pour some milk. For the salad, the fresh calyces can combine with lettuce, paprika, carrot, potato, and pour some mayonnaise sauce, the taste would be amazingly too. For the jam on the bread, just blend the fresh calyces with some sugar, and it’s ready to enjoy the breakfast of hibi jam bread with hot milk. In the evening, you can take a break and enjoy the hibi tea and some crackers. Hibi tea is made from 3 pcs of hibi calyces dried and put in a glass of hot water, pour some sugar and stir them together for 3 minutes. And a lot more food that can be produced using the calyces of Hibiscus Sabdariffa Roselle.
